Can a subscription box store move from Recharge to Supr without subscribers re-entering their cards?

In most cases yes: a subscription box store moves from Recharge (the source app) to Supr by sending an export, and Supr's team imports the subscriptions. Each one keeps its customer, saved payment method, products, price, schedule and next billing date, and the imported subscriptions stay on hold until you uninstall the old app, so nobody is charged by both. What does not move is order history, discounts that lived outside the subscription, old loyalty balances and the old app's settings.

Who this is for: For subscription box stores on Recharge that want to move to Supr without making subscribers enter their cards again.

Why cards usually do not need re-entering

When the old app charged through Shopify's own subscription system, as apps using Shopify Payments do, the saved payment methods live on your Shopify customer records, not inside the old app. They stay with your store, and the import rebuilds each subscription against them. Some older setups kept cards with the app's own payment provider instead. Supr confirms which case you are in before starting, so ask in the first message and do not change anything until you have the answer.

The six steps, in order

  1. You: turn the old app off on your storefront. Disable its app embed and remove its widget blocks. Do not uninstall it yet.
  2. You: build your offers in Supr and publish the widget from Design > Enable widget. Do it while the old app is still installed, so you can copy how it was set up.
  3. You: export your subscriptions from the old app and send the raw file in chat, with your store domain and the app's name.
  4. Supr: imports the subscriptions and confirms the numbers: how many came in and, if any did not, which and why. They arrive on hold, with no charges and no customer emails.
  5. You: uninstall the old app, once the import is confirmed.
  6. Supr: switches billing on, on each customer's existing schedule, after you say the old app is gone.

The order is what keeps any customer from being charged twice, because the old app keeps billing right up until you uninstall it.

What moves and what does not

A next billing date that has already passed is moved forward to the next cycle, so nobody is charged on import. Rebuild lost rewards in Grow > Journeys from the Loyalty rewards or Spend rewards template, and recreate a lost shipping discount in Shopify.

Getting the export

While the subscriptions are on hold

Before the import, renewals are frozen for your store. You can see it under Settings > Pause Supr. Subscriptions show as Active but none is charged, and a next billing date can pass without a renewal. That is expected. Do not unfreeze renewals yourself while the old app is installed, because a customer could be charged by both apps.

A subscription whose date passed during the freeze is charged at the first renewal run after billing is switched on. If you would rather move it to its next cycle, use Edit schedule on the subscription's Upcoming renewals card, or tell Supr before billing goes on.

Customers get no emails during the import. Their subscription management link changes to the Supr portal, which they will see in their next email from Supr.

Questions

Do my customers have to re-enter their cards?

In most migrations, no. When the old app charged through Shopify's subscription system, the saved payment methods live on your Shopify customer records and stay with your store. Supr confirms this with you before starting.

Will anyone be charged twice?

No. Imported subscriptions stay on hold until you have uninstalled the old app and told Supr you are ready, so only one app is billing.

Should I uninstall Recharge first?

No. Uninstall it only after the import is confirmed, because it carries on billing your subscribers until then. Build your offers first too, since its settings disappear with the app.

Do past orders come across?

No. They stay in Shopify under Orders, but each imported subscription starts with no previous orders listed on it in the app.

Every setting is covered in the help center: Migrating to Supr Bundle & Subscription App.
