How does a supplement store give a bigger discount for bigger packs on Shopify?
A supplement store sells 1, 3 and 6 packs from one offer: add three Quantity break options (the app's name for a bigger discount on bigger packs) in Supr Bundle & Subscription App: Quantity 1, 3 and 6, with Price set to Percentage off at 0, 10 and 20. Mark the 3 pack as the default with a Badge, and on a Bundle + Subscription offer give each pack its own delivery frequency. Any quantity above your largest option keeps the best discount it has reached.
Who this is for: For supplement stores that want a bigger discount for bigger packs, such as 1, 3 and 6 packs, on the product page.
The example used here
A store sells a $30 bottle of vitamin D, 60 capsules. One bottle costs $30.00, a 3 pack at 10% off costs $81.00 and a 6 pack at 20% off costs $144.00, which is $24.00 a bottle. The prices are an illustration; use your own.
| Option | Quantity | Price setting | Customer pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 1 | Normal price | $30.00 |
| 3 pack | 3 | Percentage off: 10 | $81.00 |
| 6 pack | 6 | Percentage off: 20 | $144.00 |
Set it up
- In Shopify, open Supr Bundle & Subscription App > Offers, click Create offer and choose Bundle (or Bundle + Subscription to let shoppers subscribe too).
- On Choose a bundle type, filter by Quantity breaks and pick a starting point, or click Start from scratch for a single option plus one discounted Double quantity break.
- For each pack, set Quantity (3, then 6) and Price to Percentage off with 10 and 20.
- Keep the single option for one unit at the normal price. A new offer starts with it shown at the top of the options, so shoppers land on buying one and trade up from there.
- On the 3 pack, click Make default so the page opens on it, then click Save.
A typical setup is the single option for one unit, then 3 units at 10% off and 6 units at 20% off, which is exactly this one. Amount off comes off each unit, and a Fixed price is the price of the whole option, not one unit, so use them with care on a pack.
Labels, badges and savings
- Badge: highlight the 3 pack with "Most popular". It pairs well with making that same option the default. Its shape, position and colours are under Design > Elements > Message badge.
- Subtitle and Text below: both take variables that fill in live. A subtitle of `You save {{ saved_total }}` reads You save $9.00 on the 3 pack, and `{{ quantity }}`, `{{ price }}` and `{{ saved_percentage }}` work too.
- Savings chip: Automatic works out the saving for you and shows only on options that actually save something. Manual lets you write the wording, with `{value}` where the amount goes.
- Round prices, the checkbox under Bundle name, charges whole amounts if odd cents bother you.
What happens above the largest option
When every option in the offer is a quantity break, each option works as a threshold: any quantity at or above an option's size earns that option's price on every unit. A shopper who adds 8 bottles gets the 6 pack discount on all 8, and 4 bottles get the 3 pack discount on all 4. This holds on the product page and when they change the quantity in the cart.
Two things change that. An offer that also holds a Buy X, get Y, fixed bundle or build your own bundle option is stricter: a quantity break is then priced at its own size or an exact multiple (3, 6, 9 for a 3 pack). And units bought on different delivery frequencies, or one-time next to a subscription, count as separate purchases rather than adding together.
A delivery frequency for each pack
On a Bundle + Subscription offer, add one subscription option per frequency (every month, every 2 months, every 3 months). On each one, click Restrict to specific bundle options, turn it on and tick only the pack it belongs to. The 3 pack is then offered every 3 months, and the single bottle every month. Packs you want sold once, like a big stock-up pack, take One-time purchase only on the option.
The subscription discount and the pack discount stack by default: the pack sets the price, then the subscription discount comes off it. Turn Apply discount to subscriptions off on an option to keep its discount to one-time purchases only. How renewals are priced is covered in How to price renewal orders on a subscribed bundle.
One choice instead of two
If each option already says how it is bought, for example 1 bottle once, 1 bottle every month and 3 pack, you can turn the pack and the purchase type into one choice. Use Subscription only and One-time purchase only on the options, restrict your subscription option to the 1 unit quantity break, and turn on Hide when single option in the Add-on settings card under Design. The widget only steps aside for an option that leaves exactly one way to buy.
Questions
Do 3 different supplements add up to a 3 pack?
Not by default. A quantity break counts one product at a time, so 3 pack means three units of the same product. Tick Mix and match products toward quantity breaks, under Bundle name, to pool the offer's products.
Do different variants of one product count together?
Yes. A customer building a 3 pack out of three different flavours still gets the 3 pack price.
What if the shopper buys 8 when my largest pack is 6?
On an offer whose options are all quantity breaks, all 8 get the 6 pack discount, because each option is a threshold.
Can I show the pack as one line in the cart?
No. A quantity break adds that many units of the product, so an 8 pack shows as the product with a quantity of 8.
Every setting is covered in the help center: Bundle types: quantity breaks, Buy X Get Y, fixed bundles, and build-a-box.
