Which price should a candle box, a snack box and a gift set use on Shopify?
A candle box usually fits a Percentage off price, a snack box fits tiered discounts (a bigger discount as the box fills), and a ready-made gift set fits a Fixed price. Supr Bundle & Subscription App offers Full price, Percentage off, Amount off and Fixed price on a bundle option, plus up to 10 Tiered discounts on a build your own box. The right one depends on whether the contents change and whether you want shoppers to build bigger boxes.
Who this is for: For shops building a box that shoppers fill themselves and deciding how to price it: candles, snacks, gift sets.
The five models side by side
Every option type works for one-time purchases and for subscriptions, and each option has its own price, so one offer can mix models.
| Price model | Where you set it | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Full price | Bundle price or Box price | A box that is a convenience, with a different reward such as a free gift |
| Percentage off | Bundle price or Box price | Boxes where products cost different amounts, and a discount that scales on its own |
| Amount off | Bundle price, Box price or Price on a quantity break | A flat saving you can state in dollars |
| Fixed price | Bundle price or Box price | A set with one headline price, such as a gift set |
| Tiered | Tiered discounts on a build your own bundle | A box where a bigger box earns a bigger discount |
The example numbers
Candles cost $20 each, and a box is 3 candles, so $60.00 at full price. A 15% off box costs $51.00. A fixed price box could be $54.00. These are an illustration, use your own.
Candle box: percent off
A candle shop where scents cost different amounts is best served by Percentage off, because the saving follows whatever the shopper picks. Set Minimum to pick and Maximum to pick to 3, set Box price to Percentage off 15, and the shopper sees the saving on the Savings chip straight away, since a percentage saving reads the same whatever ends up in the box.
If your candles all cost the same, a Fixed price also works and reads cleanly as "any 3 for $54". With a fixed box price, the saving is the gap between that price and whatever is in the box, so its chip appears once there is something in the box.
Snack box: tiered
A snack shop wants people to build a bigger box, so use Tiered discounts. Set Box price to Full price (or Percentage off for a discount before the first step), set the smallest and largest box under Minimum to pick and Maximum to pick, then click Add a discount step for each tier, for example 2 or more at 10%, 4 or more at 20% and 6 or more at 25%.
Every item counts toward a step, whatever the product or variant. The box takes the biggest discount it has reached, the option reads Save up to 25% before anything is picked, and a line under the box says how many more items unlock the next discount. Renewals keep that price, and a box edited in the customer portal is repriced at the step its new contents reach. Steps need Percentage off or Full price, so an Amount off or Fixed price box keeps its single discount whatever the box holds. See Mix and match 6 from 20 flavours for the setup around it.
Gift set: fixed price
A gift set is a Fixed bundle: you choose the products and the quantity of each, and a Fixed price is the price of the whole option, not of one product. Three items worth $74 sold as a $60 set is a clean message. If the set also carries a free gift or a note on the box, add it under Free gifts. For the free-gift version see A routine set with a free travel bag.
Amount off: check it on a real cart
On a quantity break, Amount off comes off each unit, which is why the field reads Amount off per product: $5 on a 3 unit option saves $15. On a fixed bundle or a box the docs call it a single discount, and the help center does not spell out whether it is per item or per box, so build the option and read the price in the preview and a test cart before you publish.
Things that apply to every model
- Round prices (under Bundle name) rounds quantity break and Buy X Get Y prices. Fixed bundles and build your own bundles are not rounded.
- Calculate bundle discounts from the compare-at price takes the discount from the compare-at price instead, for one-time purchases.
- On a Bundle + Subscription offer the bundle discount and the subscription discount stack by default. Turn Apply discount to subscriptions off on an option to keep its discount to one-time purchases.
- The shopper pays the price the option shows, and checkout names the discount from the option's Title, so give each option a clear title.
Questions
Is Fixed price the price per item or for the whole box?
On a bundle option it is the price of the whole option, not of one unit.
Can I use tiered discounts with a fixed price?
No. Steps need a Percentage off or Full price box price. An Amount off or Fixed price box keeps its single discount.
How many tiers can a box have?
Up to 10 discount steps on a build your own bundle option.
Can one offer mix price models?
Yes. Each option has its own type and price, so a single offer can hold a percentage off option and a fixed price set.
Every setting is covered in the help center: Bundle types: quantity breaks, Buy X Get Y, fixed bundles, and build-a-box.
